Давайте рассмотрим некоторые идиомы так или иначе связанные с семьей, семейными отношениями.
The black sheep (досл. черная овца)
Данная сразу наводит на мысль о русской «паршивой овце», но в английском языке the black sheep не несет отрицательного значения. To be the black sheep – означает быть не таким как все, отличаться, как правило, от родственников. Поэтому the black sheep корректнее будет перевести как – белая ворона .
My younger brother is the black sheep. He is different from the rest of the family.

To see eye to eye (досл. смотреть глазом в глаз)
Когда люди могут смотреть в глаза друг друга? Англичане полагают, что тогда, когда люди полностью соглашаются друг с другом, смотрят на ситуацию одними глазами, т.е. сходятся во взглядах.
They split up because they didn’t see eye to eye.
Они развелись, так полностью не совпадали во взглядах (т.к. не сошлись характерами).
To be not on speaking terms (досл. не быть на разговорных условиях)
Само выражение говорит за себя, а именно то: что кто-то не разговаривают друг с другом; объявить бойкот.
The atmosphere is a bit tense right now as my two sisters aren’t on speaking terms.
Сейчас в семье напряженная атмосфера, т.к. сестры не разговаривают друг с другом.
Get-together
Глагол to get имеет множество значений, одни из них – получать, доставать, собирать.
Сама идиома get-together означает собираться вместе.
We’re having a family get-together to celebrate my dad’s 80th birthday.

To wear the trousers (досл. носить брюки)

Данная идиома полностью совпадает с русским выражением и применяется для описания каких-то семейных «скелетов», т.е. секретов, тайн, малоизвестных и неприятных вещах.

1. It runs in the family
Если какое-то общее качество или способность наблюдается у некоторых членов семьи, то обычно говорят «It runs in the family», что-то вроде «Это у них/нас семейное».
My sister and I have curly hair. Some of my cousins have curly hair too. It runs in the family.
У моей сестры и у меня кудрявые волосы. У некоторых моих двоюродных сестёр тоже кудрявые волосы. Это у нас семейное.
My son knows how to crack me up. He has a keen sense of humour. So does my husband.
It runs in the family.

2. to take after somebody — пойти в кого-то
People, who know our family well, say that the girls (namely, my little sister Diana and I) take after my dad, both in appearance and character. And my brother takes after my mom.

I have a teenaged brother. We are 7 years apart. Despite the fact that he is a notorious troublemaker and real pain in the neck, we get along. But my sister and Daniel don’t always get along with each other.

5. siblings — братья и сестры (дети одних родителей)
I have two siblings — a sister and brother. By the way, there is no sibling rivalry between us.

Siblings are expected to share many things when they are young.
